On Certification Policy

Reliable Business Partner
Certified Company of Excellence in Shipping and Port Industry Brand by the Port of Busan

WeBUSAN

On Certification Policy

Background
  • Although the Port of Busan is a global trade port ranked sixth in the volume of containers processed in 2019, many observers have pointed out that the port’s service business is lacking in comparison to other competitive ports.
  • This resulted in the need to nurture the competitiveness of port-related industries in line with its recent rise as an important element in this aspect and, thereby, facilitate a long-term transition to becoming a high-value industry.
Goals
  • Systematically facilitate the transition of port-related industries to high-value industries in line with its importance in improving competitiveness, and nurture the Port of Busan to become the leading port globally.
  • To that end, a certification system for shipping and port companies at the Port of Busan was established, along with an efficient system of support for their mid- to long-term growth and nurturing.
  • The first fields certified are the shipping instrument supply and ship repair industries, with more industries included gradually to eventually encompass the entire shipping and port field.
Legal Basis
  • Busan Metropolitan City Charter 5764, “Busan Metropolitan City Certification and Support for Companies of Excellence in Shipping and Port Industry”
